Campervan and Motorhome Rental Insurance

Larger vehicles bring higher excesses and different risks. Here is what to check before your trip.

Campervan holidays offer freedom, but insurance for these vehicles is often more complex than for standard car hire.

Excesses can be high, and exclusions for roof and overhead damage are common.

Higher excesses

Motorhome rental excesses are often far higher than for cars. Ask what the excess is and what reduction options cost. Standalone motorhome excess insurance may be available.

Common exclusions

  • Roof and overhead damage from low bridges or branches
  • Underbody damage on unpaved roads
  • Interior damage and appliances
  • Awning damage in wind

Licence requirements

Larger motorhomes may require a different licence category depending on weight and where you drive. Check the vehicle’s maximum authorised mass and your licence.

Driving tips

Know the vehicle’s height and width, take wide turns, and use a spotter when reversing. Plan routes that avoid narrow roads and low bridges.
